Meet the Artists & Musicians

Nadler “Nate” Petit-Dieu

Nate will be at our Sampler to showcase some of his work and talk about his art commission with Poco a Poco--artwork to be unveiled at this year's 8th Summer Music Fest (June 8 - 15)!

Three lucky Sampler ticket holders will win three original traditional graphite and ink pieces, created by Nate during each of the three mini concerts. We're certainly excited!

Al & Jeannie Brown

Jeannie and Al Brown have been making music together for years. Both were Illinois Valley musicians when they met in 1978. Although their piano and upright bass duo covers nearly every musical style, they favor jazz standards.

“Jazz covers a lot of musical territory,” says the pair. “There’s literally something for everyone.” It’s definitely their favorite format, though they are quick to add, “There are so many good songs, so much good music in the world. We won’t pass up a chance to play an old favorite just because it’s not considered a jazz tune. We just put our personal spin on it!”

Alan Johnson

Pianist Alan Johnson is a Professor at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami and Music Director/Conductor for the Frost Opera Theater. As conductor and pianist, he is widely recognized outside of academia in a career spanning music direction and performance in a multitude of progressive works at the frontiers of opera, theater, dance, and song with acclaimed and emerging artists of all generations.

In addition to song recitals with mezzo-soprano Kate Tombaugh, spring and summer 2024 concerts include performances at the University of Alabama, Ball State University, Virginia Arts Festival, Sembrich Opera Museum/New York, Opera America/New York, and in Helsinki, Finland.

Kate Tombaugh

Mezzo-Soprano Kate Tombaugh has been praised as “utterly convincing, dramatically, and musically superlative” (Seen and Heard International). She recently won first place in the Mildred C. Miller International Competition, hosted by Pittsburgh Festival Opera, and featuring an all-mezzo edition.

Kate had the distinct pleasure of premiering the lead mezzo role of “The Dough” in Rachel J. Peters’ Companionship; she debuted the role with Fort Worth Opera, and reprised in its orchestral premiere with the Virginia Arts Festival John Duffy Institute for New Opera, under the baton of Alan Johnson. Her numerous roles and solo appearances range the gamut from classical to musical theater, spanning centuries of music.
