Jeannie and Al Brown have been making music together for years. Both were Illinois Valley musicians when they met in 1978. Covering nearly every musical style, their piano and upright bass duo favor jazz standards.

“Jazz covers a lot of musical territory,” says the pair. “There’s literally something for everyone.” It’s definitely their favorite format, though they are quick to add, “There are so many good songs, so much good music in the world. We won’t pass up a chance to play an old favorite just because it’s not considered a jazz tune. We just put our personal spin on it!”

Behind the scenes, Al Brown has been a big help to Poco a Poco since its inception. As our piano technician, he's made it possible for us to make beautiful, harmonious music on real-live instruments since 2017! Every Young Artist now has the opportunity to take piano lessons on a piano and not a keyboard, thanks to the generous space provided by Park Presbyterian Church and the careful ears and skills of Al Brown.
