Anya Liu

Anya Liu is a rising sophomore at Northwestern University. She began taking piano lessons at age four with Brenda Huang and James Giles during high school and currently studies with Sylvia Wang. She has received numerous piano competition awards and performed in various concerts and recitals.

She most recently was the alternate winner for the 2020 National MTNA competition in the Illinois Division. She performed with Oistrach Symphony Orchestra as the piano winner of the 2019 Depaul Concerto Festival. In the summer of 2021, she traveled to Portugal to participate in the SIPO 2021 Music Festival, where she played in masterclasses with Boris Berman, Eugen Indjic, and Manuela Gouveia. She also participated in masterclasses with Boris Slutsky, Jerome Lowenthal, Gideon Rubin, and Thomas Rosenkranz during the 2022 Amalfi Coast Festival.

In 2017, she was selected as a semifinalist in the Beijing China Central Television (CCTV) International Rising Start Youth Talent Competition as a violinist. In June 2018, she performed as a violinist at Carnegie Hall with the Honors Junior Orchestra and was the concertmaster of New Trier’s Symphony Orchestra.
