Nathan Brown
R. Nathan Brown (he/him) is an emerging young tenor who takes pride in his versatility as both an educator and artist. Nathan is currently finishing his DMA in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Iowa, where he also completed an MA in Vocal Performance. He completed his undergraduate degree in Vocal Music Education from Murray State University in Murray, KY. Nathan currently serves as Adjunct Instructor of Voice at St. Ambrose University as well as maintaining a private voice studio of all ages and vocal styles.
Nathan’s performance resume includes operatic standards and world premieres at UIowa, with Union Avenue Opera, and throughout Iowa City. He’s equally versed in musical theatre credits, along with choral and oratorio experiences with ensembles that include the St. Louis Chamber Chorus and the No-Name Chorale.
Nathan has a breadth of experiences as composer and instrumentalist. He was a member of the 2015 Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps for their competition season, and participated in the International Competition of Collegiate Acapella circuit with Murray State’s group EQ Blu, where he won an award for Best Arrangement at the 2017 competition.
When not pursuing his passion as a musician and educator, Nathan is working at Navigate Homes as part of the design team, creating beautiful spaces for people to live. He just as easily can be found lounging with his cat and playing Stardew Valley or going out to ice skate with his husband, Ming. He and his partner aren’t particularly good skaters, but they have a lot of fun doing it.
